About the race
Carolina Thread 8/4 hour events take place at Westminster Park in Rock Hill, SC and are organized by BALS Racing. Entry fees range from $87.50 to $110 (USD). Registration closes on Thu, May 6 at 11:59 PM ET.

The course uses a 1.75 mile loop with approximately 155 ft of elevation gain and loss per loop. In 2027 the loop will be run in the clockwise direction; the race direction changes from year to year. Runners may begin setting up crew areas on race morning at 6:00 AM in the large open field near the start/finish.
There is a single aid station at the start/finish with organic food options, water, and Just Ingredients electrolytes. Hot organic food will be prepared during the day and aid choices may be influenced by participant voting.
The venue includes a playground, acres of open fields, an 18 hole frisbee disc golf course that hosted the 2026 National Collegiate Championships, restroom facilities, river fishing by license, and a pavilion able to shelter at least two hundred runners.
The swag bag includes unique BALS logo merchandise, a BALS sticker, and additional items. All finishers receive a handmade medal and a Carolina Thread sticker. Top three male and female finishers in each time event receive custom handmade awards. Registrations completed before April 14, 2027 are guaranteed a handmade medal.
Packet pick up is Friday, May 7 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM (location to be announced) and on race morning from 6:30 to 7:30 AM at the start/finish. Pacers are not allowed except by organizer approval. The event is rain or shine with no refunds; transfers to the following year or to another runner are allowed and a one year pregnancy deferral is offered. Bib transfers are possible up to five days before the race via the registration platform.
Two riddles will be placed on course with a prize for the first correct answer. The event spirit animal for 2027 is the Red Fox. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
