The around Canvey Island Trail Run
This is a timed, self supported, anti clockwise loop around Canvey Island that starts and finishes at Waterside Farm Leisure Centre. The event is for adults only; any children spectating must be supervised by an appropriate adult at all times. TRA permit number 7711 (TBC) applies and non-TRA and UKA members pay a £2 levy.
The course follows the King Charles 3rd England Coast Path for much of the route, with stretches on the sea wall, single track grass paths and wider concrete and gravel trails. There is an option in one section, if weather and tides allow, to use the lower promenade to view local artwork; using the upper or lower section carries no penalty. There is a staffed check point at a pub about 10k into the loop where runners may check in with a timer, receive a drink provided by the organisers and refill water bottles. A four hour cut off applies and a relay team of tail walkers and joggers will sweep the course.
Participants are advised to download the GPX file and follow the route on Strava or print the race narrative. Registration allows collection of race numbers, pins and a bottle of water. Organisers provide many lockers but do not accept responsibility for lost or stolen items. Toilets are available inside the leisure centre, at the Lobster Smack and at public facilities by the south play area. Free parking is usually available at the venue subject to football fixtures. Benfleet Railway Station is about an 18 minute brisk walk away or a shorter ride by bicycle. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
