Boo Ridge 5k and Fun Runs
Boo Ridge is a Halloween themed fundraiser in Hillsville, VA organized with Carroll County Special Olympics. Team members appear in costume along the route and staff water points. Event profits are deposited with Special Olympics Virginia and earmarked for the local team. Many participants wear costumes, but costumes are not required.
The main 5K follows a loop around the school then continues on an old cross country course through the woods. The 5K course is rugged with uphills and downhills and sections with tree roots; strollers are not recommended. Athletes as young as six have completed the 5K and walkers are welcome.
The event program includes shorter paved routes intended for children, families, or participants who prefer a shorter distance. The Monster Mile is two laps on a paved path and is suitable for strollers and wheelchairs. The Little Goblin Half Mile is held on the paved loop around the elementary school and is designed for children age ten and below; parents may accompany young children. The Ghost Walk provides an option for supporters who cannot attend the runs and includes a commemorative t-shirt. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
