Backyard Nonsense
Backyard Nonsense is scheduled for September 26, 2026 at Richard Bong State Recreation Area in Brighton, WI. The event is organized by Cussing Runner and has been postponed from June 6, 2026 to the September date.
The event includes multiple timed trail race options:
- 24 hour
- 12 hour Backyard (hourly 4.1 mile loop)
- 12 hour continuous
- 6 hour
- 3 hour
The Backyard 12 format uses a recurring 4.1 mile loop run each hour; participants may remain in as many hours as they choose and the last runner remaining completes a final race to determine the Backyard winner. The 12 hour continuous option allows runners to accumulate distance without hourly stops. The course passes near Vern Wolf Lake and features trails with rolling hills and scenic views. A central home base is provided for crew and support between loops.
Event attendees who arrive by vehicle must have a 2026 Wisconsin State Park pass or purchase a day pass at the park entrance. The organizer provides a limited number of free entries for BIPOC and LGBTQ+ athletes subject to available funding. For registration records, organizers accept each entrant’s declared gender and offer accommodation for non binary pronouns in event records.
