About the race
The Black Forest Ultra is a trail ultramarathon of 100k held at Hyner Run State Park, Pennsylvania, on October 3, 2027. The event is organized by Iron Forged Runners and is run on the Black Forest Trail, which the organizers describe as featuring extensive forested sections, rocky terrain, long climbs, and notable views.
Registration opens at 6:00pm on November 1, 2026, is first come, first served, and the field is capped at 150 participants; a waiting list opens once the cap is reached. The event uses tiered entry fees: Launch ($150 for the first 25), Early ($165 through January 1), Normal ($180 January 2 to June 14), and Late ($190 June 15 to September 19).
This is not an entry level race. Each entry is reviewed by race directors and all participants must have completed at least one 50k or longer trail race within the advertised cut-off time in the three years prior to registration. Exceptions may be considered for shorter but very difficult races; qualifying races must be official with published results and must be completed before registering. Timed training runs are not accepted as qualifying races.
Packet pickup is available from Noon to 3:00pm at Mountain Top & Provisions, with a late pickup window from 10:00pm to 11:50pm at the start/finish area.
