About the race
The Eastern States 100 is a 103 mile single loop ultramarathon held in Pennsylvania's Wilds. The course circumnavigates the Pine Creek watershed, a route the organizers call the Circumnavigation of the Lost and Bewildered River. The route follows established trails and includes more than 20,000 feet of cumulative climbing.
Race materials include course maps, elevation charts, and a detailed course narrative. Aid station information and an aid station data visualization are provided for the course. Runner tracking is available via an aid station based system that reports a runner only when volunteers transmit their times; the public tracking display updates every ten minutes. Crew and spectator access is restricted to designated crew access aid stations in order to comply with permit conditions.
The event is managed by the Eastern States Trail-Endurance Alliance, which organizes several trail races and frames the events as a form of stewardship for trails and public lands. Partners, volunteers, and a participant guide for recent events are listed by the organizers. Registration for the 2027 race is scheduled to open on October 1, 2026 at 6 PM Eastern Time.
