BC Marathon
The BC Marathon is a circular trail marathon that starts and finishes in Bishop's Castle and runs deep into the Shropshire Hills. The route uses sections of the Shropshire Way and passes through Nipstone and Stiperstones National Nature Reserves before climbing onto the Long Mynd, where higher ground offers wide views over the surrounding countryside. The return follows a mix of local footpaths back to Bishop's Castle.
This is a navigational marathon. Large sections follow permanent waymarkers on the Shropshire Way, but participants are expected to use the provided GPX route on a watch or phone to stay on course. The event has a no cut off time policy, however the event is not open to walkers.
Facilities at Event HQ include toilets and baggage storage. Camping is available nearby at Foxholes Castle Camping for £10 per person per night; booking is handled by the campsite. The event is weather permitting dog friendly; dogs should be kept under control and on a lead where appropriate.
Suggested kit includes 1 litre of water, a fully charged mobile phone, food or gels, a waterproof jacket or base layer, a foil blanket, a foldable cup (no cups provided at aid stations) and the BC Marathon GPX file. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
