Mortimer Forest Trail Race
The Mortimer Forest Trail Race is a winter multi terrain event in Mortimer Forest on the Herefordshire/Shropshire border, with Race HQ and parking at Moor Park School. The course uses Forestry England land with permission and is marshalled and signed.
There are two routes:
- 10 mile route includes the Rock Garden and a climb to the top of High Vinnalls with far reaching views.
- 4 mile route follows larger tracks, omits the longer mud sections, and still includes a climb of High Vinnalls.
The 10 mile course passes through much of the main forest and finishes with a downhill section offering views across the Welsh Marches toward the Malvern Hills and Brecon Beacons. The event notes mud and hills on the longer route. Forestry works have required a revised 10 mile alignment and some features on the Bringewood side are not used; an alternative route is in place.
Minimum ages are 19 for the 10 mile route and 15 for the 4 mile route. Participant medallions are available in a limited run of 100 at a set price and are locally handmade. Parking at Moor Park School is limited; car sharing or public transport are recommended. No dogs are allowed. The event is permitted by The Association of Running Clubs, permit ARC/26/0691.
