BALS Backyard
BALS Backyard is an inaugural Last Person Standing event at Westminster Park in Rock Hill, SC. The format uses a single loop of about 4.167 miles with approximately 400 ft of elevation gain or loss per loop. Runners repeat the loop on an hourly schedule until only one runner remains; the final runner must complete one additional loop to be named the winner.
The venue uses part of the Westminster Park trail system and includes playgrounds, open fields, an 18 hole disc golf course hosting the National Collegiate Championships, restroom facilities, river fishing with a license, and a large pavilion that can shelter many participants. The day and night loops follow the same route. The event will be streamed throughout the race.
Crew areas are available in a large open field near the start and finish corral. Each crew gets a 12'x12' spot assigned in registration order. Crew setup is scheduled Friday evening and again on race morning. Participants are responsible for their own fueling strategy.
Race rules require runners to be in the corral when the bell signals the start of each loop. No aid from crew is permitted while a runner is on a loop; items taken from the corral must be returned to the corral. Failure to follow the rules results in a DNF. Those reaching 50K (eight loops) receive a pin.
The swag bag includes BALS logo merchandise and a sticker. All finishers receive a custom handmade award and a sticker. Two riddles will appear on course with a prize for the first correct answer. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
