About the race
BALS Backyard is a Last Person Standing race held at Westminster Park, 4000 India Hook Road, Rock Hill, SC. The course is a loop of 4.167 miles with approximately 400 feet of elevation gain and loss per loop. Runners complete the loop on an hourly schedule; a bell and whistle signals are used at each hour. Runners must be present in the start/finish corral when the bell rings, may not exit the course until a loop is complete, and may not receive aid from their crew while on the loop. The last remaining runner must complete one additional loop to be declared the winner. Runners unable to complete a loop within 60 minutes are recorded as a DNF.
The venue includes a pavilion near the start/finish corral, a playground, open fields, an 18 hole frisbee disc golf course hosting the National Collegiate Championships, restroom facilities, and river access for licensed fishing. The pavilion will host a live stream for much of the race. Crew areas are twelve by twelve feet and are assigned by registration order; crews may set up before the event. An aid station at the pavilion will offer water, Just Ingredients Electrolytes, and a small selection of organic snacks and homemade items; participants are responsible for their own fueling. The swag bag includes BALS logo merchandise and a sticker. Finishers receive a handmade award and a BALS Backyard sticker, and participants who reach 50K (8 loops) will receive a pin.
