Babbitt's Backyard Ultra

Babbitt's Backyard Ultra is a last person standing running event held in Flagstaff, AZ near SP Crater. The course combines dirt trails and road, features about 150 ft of elevation gain per loop, and offers views of the crater and the Peaks. The location listed is near the 447-448 mile post on Tub Ranch Road.

The format uses repeated one-hour loops of 4.167 miles. Each loop begins on the bell; runners must be in the starting corral when the bell sounds and complete the loop within the hour to count it. Warning whistles are given three, two and one minute before each loop. Runners may not start late and may not leave the course during a loop except for restroom stops. No personal aid is allowed while on a loop, and artificial aids such as trekking poles are prohibited.

Event logistics include water available throughout the race and a 10 foot by 10 foot space assigned to each runner near the start and finish area. One crew member at a time per runner is permitted. Runners who stop must vacate their space so survivors can move closer to the corral. Results report distance covered; the winner is the last person to complete a loop and all others are recorded as DNF. The race ends as soon as a winner is determined.

Health and safety notes state wide trails, availability of hand sanitizer, and that social distancing will be observed. The event operates as a not for profit with any net proceeds directed to local businesses or non profit. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
