Kahtoola Uphill Race
The Kahtoola Uphill is an annual mountain race that raises funds for Friends of Camp Colton and supports outdoor education for children. The event is presented as family friendly and designed to encourage human powered movement. Teams of any size may enter together, and the event includes a post race celebration and camaraderie.
The event features multiple uphill courses with distinct names: Cambium Wealth Strategies Fun Climb, Midway Climb, and the Lumberyard Brewing Co. Öo’mawki Climb. Course options are described as ranging from more recreational to more demanding, providing a variety of uphill experiences.
Raffles are held in conjunction with the race. The Peace Outfitters Race Raffle offers prizes valued at $25 and up. A Golden Ticket raffle lists prizes valued at $500 or more, with 24 prizes and 240 Golden Tickets offered; Golden Tickets are sold at $100 each and the stated chance of winning remains about one in ten. Winners do not need to be present to claim raffle prizes.
The event relies on volunteers before, during, and after the race; volunteers receive racer swag and may wear costumes. A Champ for Camp sponsorship program accepts business sponsors with tiered levels starting at $500, and sponsorship revenue is used to expand student access, support program development, and contribute to the long term sustainability of Camp Colton.
