Blackout Night Runs
Blackout Night Runs takes place on June 19, 2026 at Fort Tuthill County Park in Flagstaff, Arizona. The event offers three trail distances on forested terrain and mesa viewpoints above 7,000 feet.
- 27K - multi-loop on Soldiers Trail and Highlands Trail, ~16.8 miles, 1,293 ft gain
- 13K - single loop combining Soldiers Trail and Highlands Trail, ~8.56 miles, 648 ft gain
- 6K - shorter Soldiers Trail route, ~4.12 miles, 287 ft gain
Courses run through ponderosa pine forest and include narrow single track and wider maintained forest paths, with sections that top out on a mesa offering expansive night sky views. The 27K is designed as two full circuits of the loop.
Aid stations are provided and generally appear every 4.0 to 4.4 miles on longer distances. Stations are stocked with water, an electrolyte drink (Gnarly Fuel-2O), sweet and salty snacks, and fruit. Runners are advised to plan for running at elevation and to carry at least one bottle of water.
Course marking uses orange plastic ribbons with black polka dots, colored laminated signs at junctions, and blue and white checkerboard flagging to indicate wrong-way trails. Crews are allowed only at the start/finish area, pacers are not permitted, and drop bags may be left at the start/finish. The event provides chip timing, finish line photos, a custom finisher medal, and live split tracking. The overall cutoff for all races is 12:00 AM.
