Allithwaite 8 - The 10th edition
Allithwaite 8 is a community-focused trail race based at Allithwaite Community Centre, Quarry Lane, Allithwaite LA11 7QJ on the Cartmel peninsula. The event is in its tenth edition and directs a large part of its proceeds to the local school, community centre and other community projects.
The course covers around 8 miles / 13 km across trail, fell and quiet roads. The route is well marked and marshalled. Off-road shoes are recommended. Specific kit requirements include hat, gloves and full body cover or waterproofs; required kit is checked at race registration.
The event sets a minimum age of 16 years on race day; competitors under 18 require parental consent. Prizes are offered for first, second and third open men and women and include cash and local food and drink; awards are also available for veteran and U18 categories. Entrants for this edition receive a special 10th edition item.
Practical arrangements at the venue include toilets and refreshments at race headquarters and water available at the finish; competitors are asked to bring a cup. Dogs are not allowed on the course or in the community centre. There is limited free car parking close to the venue and organizers note that competitors travelling in full cars or using alternative transport will be rewarded. No entries are taken on the day.
