About the race
The Middleware Adult Tough Guy & Gal Challenge in Rotorua is an off-road obstacle event held at Lakes Ranch, 79 Lake Rotokawau Rd, Owhata, Rotorua. The course is described as approximately 6 km per lap with a 12 km option requiring two laps; distance may vary by venue but is equated by organisers to the time of a flat 6 km cross country course.
The course uses outdoor terrain such as farmland and natural bushland and includes obstacles like mud pits, climbing walls, and crawling tunnels. Organisers state obstacles are non electrified and may be skipped; skipping an obstacle makes a competitor ineligible for podium placings. Footwear with covered toes is compulsory; moulded-stud football or rugby boots are acceptable while running spikes or aluminium studs are not.
A Team Challenge is run within the 6 km event. Teams require a minimum of five members with at least two women; team placings are calculated by adding the top five individual placings. Every entry is an individual entry and eligible for age group awards. Age limit for the adult event is 13 years and older.
