About the race
Essex Trail Events stages two trail races near Chelmsford on 23 August 2026, with race HQ outside Springfield Cricket Club, Coronation Park, Timsons Lane, Chelmsford CM2 6AF.
Distances include:
- Admiral McHilly : approx 16 miles; minimum age 17
- Chelmer Trail : approx 6 miles; minimum age 16
The Admiral McHilly course is a hilly trail using existing paths to and from Danbury Hill, with substantial climbing concentrated in the middle section; the organiser added further climbing for the current course. Drink stations may be provided, but participants are advised to carry their own refreshments. By contrast the Chelmer Trail follows a flattish route in the Chelmer Valley.
These are self-navigation trail races. Competitors receive a written route description on the day; there are no course markings, marshals, or GPX files. The event is not a mass start and runners will be timed out and back in at the finish.
Entry fees are £8 affiliated and £10 unaffiliated; the entry includes a £3 voucher for the Cricket Club bar. A booking/service fee applies (4% service fee, minimum 50p, plus a stated 50p booking fee). There is ample parking. Dogs are not permitted. Refunds are only given if the race is cancelled. Transfers are not allowed after 16 August. Entrants who book others must provide required contact details before the closing date of 21 August 2026.
