Admiral McHilly Trail and Chelmer Trail : 23 August 2026
Essex Trail Events is staging two self-navigation trail races near Chelmsford on 23 August 2026. Participants receive a written route description on the day; there are no course markings or marshals and no GPX file will be provided. Runners will be timed out and back in at the finish.
Distances
- Approx 16 miles Admiral McHilly Trail, minimum age 17.
- Approx 6 miles Chelmer Trail, minimum age 16.
The Admiral McHilly Trail is a hilly course with the middle third containing significant climbing: the route previously included 700 feet of climb and descent in that section and this year adds a further 200 feet of climb. The organiser expects to provide drink stations but advises competitors to carry their own refreshment. The Chelmer Trail follows a flatter route through the Chelmer Valley.
Race headquarters is outside Springfield Cricket Club, Coronation Park, Timsons Lane, Chelmsford CM2 6AF. There is ample parking at the venue. Entry fees are £8 for affiliated runners and £10 for unaffiliated, plus a 50p booking fee; the entry includes a £3 voucher redeemable at the cricket club bar on the day.
Multiple entries for friends are allowed but the organiser requires full details for each person before the closing date. No refunds will be issued except if the race is cancelled. No transfers are permitted after 16 August. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
