The 63rd Across Wales Walk

The event is a 45 mile linear walk or run from the English border at Anchor near Clun in Shropshire to the Welsh coast at Clarach Bay near Aberystwyth. The route includes Plynlimon at 2467 ft, the highest point in the Cambrian Mountains, and has an 18 hour time limit. Average completion is around 14 hours.

The route follows paths, tracks, unclassified roads and open country. Participants encounter a variety of surfaces including tarmac, rough track, forest, farmland, open moorland and bog. Weather in September can vary widely, with examples including snow, strong winds, low cloud, heat and heavy rain. The event requires strength, stamina and endurance and is not recommended as an introduction to challenge walking.

The Across Wales Walk is open to both walkers and runners but is not organised as a race. Entrants under 18 must provide a parent or guardian declaration and must be accompanied throughout by an adult nominated at application, with a maximum of two under-18s per nominated adult. If the nominated adult retires, an accompanied under-18 must also retire unless another participant accepts responsibility for them in writing.

Entry packages include basic accommodation in Clun (own bedding required), coach transport to the start, route refreshments and support, overnight bag transfer to Aberystwyth, transport from the finish to Aberystwyth University, accommodation with shared bathrooms on Saturday night, breakfast on Sunday and coach transport back to Clun. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
