XTERRA Sleeping Giant
The XTERRA Sleeping Giant event takes place in Thunder Bay, Ontario, at the head of Lake Superior. The races utilize purpose-built mountain bike and recreation trails set over unique mesa rock formations within the Boreal forest. The event locations are centered around Boulevard Lake and Kinsmen Park.
The following race options are available on August 16, 2026:
- Full Distance Triathlon: 1500m swim, 26k bike, and 10k run.
- Sprint Distance Triathlon: 750m swim, 15k bike, and 5k run.
- Super Sprint Triathlon: 300m swim, 8k bike, and 3k run.
- Full Distance Duathlon: 5k run, 26k bike, and 10k run.
- Trail Half Marathon: 25k trail run.
- 10K Trail Run: 10k trail run.
- 5K Trail Run: 5k trail run.
The bike course features a combination of bike paths, doubletrack, and singletrack trails. Participants must use mountain bikes as the trails are not suitable for gravel bikes. These trails are generally rated as easy to moderate. The running segments consist of gravel paths and trails with rolling hills. The full distance triathlon serves as a qualifier for the XTERRA World Championships, offering 56 qualifying slots.
