The event takes place in Thunder Bay at 400 Lyon Boulevard West on the shores of Lake Superior. Courses use purpose-built mountain bike and recreation trails that traverse mesa rock formations and boreal forest.

The event description notes 28 qualification spots to the XTERRA World Championships. The organizer publishes deferral policies for pregnancy, postpartum, adoption and gender affirming surgery; approved deferrals remove the original registration and provide a promo code to apply to the following year's event, with no refund of differences if the new fee is lower.
