XTERRA Sleeping Giant - Thunder Bay, Ontario - 16 August 2026

XTERRA Sleeping Giant is an off road multisport event in Thunder Bay, Ontario, taking place on 16 August 2026. The event, presented by XTERRA, includes off road triathlon races, a duathlon and multiple trail running races as part of the XTERRA World Tour and the XTERRA Trail Run World Series.

Races on the program include:

• Full Distance Triathlon: 1500 m swim, 26 km bike, 10 km run
• Sprint Distance Triathlon: 750 m swim, 15 km bike, 5 km run
• Super Sprint Triathlon: 300 m swim, 8 km bike, 3 km run
• Full Distance Duathlon: 5 km run, 26 km bike, 10 km run
• Trail Half Marathon: 25 km run
• Trail Run: 10 km run
• Trail Run: 5 km run

The venue is Boulevard Lake and Kinsmen Park. The bike routes run on purpose built mountain bike trails rated green and blue, with a mix of bike paths, doubletrack and singletrack. The run courses mix gravel paths, doubletrack and singletrack with rolling and punchy hills and some technical sections. The bike leg is mountain bike only. There are two transition areas: T1 at Boulevard Lake and T2 at Kinsmen Park; most run events start from Kinsmen Park while the half marathon starts at Boulevard Lake and finishes at Kinsmen Park.

Swim starts are organized by event type and may be adjusted; the swim can be shortened or removed for safety concerns and replaced by a duathlon format. The event allocates 56 XTERRA World Championship slots and 28 trail run championship slots. The organizing group is a not for profit volunteer organization and the event states that all purchases are final with no refunds, transfers or rollovers.
