Event details

WinterRock takes place on January 3, 2026 in Independence, KS at the Outlet Channel Shelter by Elk City Lake. The event offers these entries:

• Triple Crown (registration option for all three FlatRock races)
• 25K
• 12K

Shirts and medallions will be given to participants. A 10% discount is offered to active-duty military and veterans. Volunteers receive a T-shirt and a registration credit program: one shift yields 25% off a future race; four shifts equal a free race.

Course, logistics, and rules

The course is a technical, mostly single-track out-and-back on the Elk River Hiking Trail through forest, limestone bluffs, rock formations, and vistas. The 25K has three aid stations and the 12K has one turnaround aid station; aid stations are unmanned, provide only water, and are about 3.5-4 miles apart. No cups are provided, so runners must carry their own handheld water. Packet pickup and the race start are at the Outlet Channel Group Shelter on the north side of the Elk City Lake dam.

Trekking poles and leashed dogs are allowed. Runners are responsible for their own medical preparedness and must follow race management directions. DNF, DQ, dropdown, transfer, and cancellation policies are specified; transfers are allowed as credit on a sliding scale and refunds are not offered.
