FlatRock 101 takes place at Elk City Lake near Independence, KS on April 18, 2026. Course, logistics and rules
The course is a double out-and-back on the Elk River Hiking Trail. The trail is mostly single-track, very rocky, and passes limestone bluffs, rock formations, and scenic vistas. Aid coverage varies by distance: the 101K has 15 aid stations (11 fully stocked, 4 water-only), the 50K has 7 (5 fully stocked, 2 water-only), the 25K has 3 (2 fully stocked, 1 water-only turnaround), the 12K has 1 fully stocked station, and the 5K has no aid stations. Fully stocked stations include water, electrolyte drink, snack foods, and items such as soup and sandwiches. Distances between aid stations are about 3.5 to 5 miles.
Packet pickup is offered Friday evening (with a spaghetti dinner including vegetarian and gluten-free options) and again Saturday morning. Drop bags and crew access are allowed for the 50K and 101K at specified locations. Race photos are provided by a photography partner. Runners who fail to finish within cutoffs will be listed as DNF; course cutting or other rule violations may result in disqualification. Camping and nearby motel options are available.
