Course and Series

The race takes place on the Elk River Hiking Trail near Independence, Kansas. The course is a double out-and-back on a forest trail that winds through limestone bluffs and rock formations. It is described as mostly single-track and very rocky, with no long hills.

The FlatRock 101K is part of the FlatRock Triple Crown Series. This series also includes the WinterRock 25K and the FlatRock 50K. Runners who complete all three races receive a special award.

Event Information

There is a pre-race dinner on Friday evening during packet pickup. The dinner is spaghetti, with vegetarian and gluten-free options available. Packet pickup is also available on Saturday morning before the race start. The race headquarters is at the Outlet Channel Group Shelter, north of the Elk City Lake dam.

For the 101K and 50K distances, runners are allowed to use drop bags and have crew support. Pacers are permitted only for 101K runners after they have completed the first 50K. All dogs must be on a leash, and trekking poles are allowed.
