Winster Hill Race

The Winster Hill Race is held in Winster, Derbyshire as part of the Winster Wakes carnival week on 2 July 2026. The event is a measured 4 miles / 6.4 kilometers and follows lanes, trails and fields around the village. The course includes gates, narrow stiles and single-track sections.

The route begins on Main Street near Leacroft Garage and is marshalled at junctions. Tape marks parts of the course to assist navigation. The surface is a mix of metalled and unmetalled lanes, fields and steps; some sections are uneven and require care, especially where wooden or gravel steps lead down to the road.

Runners will encounter an opening fast mile, several short climbs including one of about 80 meters elevation gain, steep field descents and narrow sections on Islington Lane where single file running is needed. The finish is through the village in front of the Bowling Green pub. Tail runners will be present.

Entry options include online pre-entry at £5 with payment collected on race night, and on the night entry at £8, with an overall entry limit of 200 runners. Minimum age for entrants is 14 years on the date of the race. A competitor Guide may run with free entry; organisers should be informed in advance to facilitate number collection. There are two small car parks in Winster and post-race catering and pub facilities near the finish. Course records stand at 00:22:30 for men and 00:25:54 for women.
