Halifax Search and Rescue Eco-Endurance Challenge (E2C)

The Eco-Endurance Challenge (E2C) is a team orienteering event organized by Urban Trail Racing in the Blue Mountain Birch Cove Lakes Wilderness Area, starting from the Maskwa Aquatics Club parking lot. Teams of two or more have a fixed time to visit as many checkpoints as possible. Scoring is based on the highest point total within the chosen time or on being the fastest to return to the start after visiting all course markers.

The event includes the Wild Lakes 10K race on Sunday morning. Participation options include Map & Compass only, Open (GPS or Map & Compass), and sessions reserved for active Search and Rescue members. Maps will be provided one hour before the race start and a formal participant guide will be sent in late March. An information session is planned for April 4.

Onsite medical support is provided by Halifax Search & Rescue medical teams. Required equipment includes two compasses (or GPS for Open), two whistles, sufficient water and snacks; 8 hour and 24 hour participants must carry headlamps or flashlights. Equipment checks take place on race morning. Registration fees vary by event type. All profits and additional funds raised are donated to Halifax Search & Rescue and Friends of Blue Mountain Birch Cove Lakes. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
