The Callous Crow

The Callous Crow is held on the Crowbar Hiking Trails in Porters Lake, Nova Scotia, within the Waverley - Salmon River Long Lake Wilderness Area. The trail system is maintained by the Crowbar Lake Wilderness Association and volunteers.

There is a single distance of roughly 21 km on narrow, technical trails that pass through old-growth forest and by large granite boulders and rocky outcrops that can provide expansive views. The course features roots, rocks, leaf cover, steep ascents and technical downhills, requiring careful attention to footing.

The race is chip timed. To reduce early congestion there are two starts separated by 5 minutes; Wave 1 is intended for runners expecting to finish in about 3 hours or less, Wave 2 for those expecting longer than 3 hours. A cutoff is enforced at the 7.6 km mark: competitors must reach this point within 2 hours to continue the full loop, otherwise they will be directed to a shortened route of about 13 km. The event aims to have everyone off the trail within 5 hours.

Three dollars from every race entry is donated to the trail system. Prizes are planned for male and female podium places and there are additional prizes. Dogs are not allowed on the course but are welcome at the start and finish. If trails are too wet on the race date, a rain date of May 2 has been designated.
