The Callous Crow
The event is the 4th edition of The Callous Crow held on the Crowbar Hiking Trails in Porters Lake, Nova Scotia. The trails lie within the Waverley - Salmon River Long Lake Wilderness Area and are maintained by the Crowbar Lake Wilderness Association and volunteers.
The race follows narrow, technical trails through old growth forest, past large granite boulders and rocky outcrops, with some expansive views. There is a single distance of about 21ish km. The course includes roots, rocks and leaf cover that require attention to footing, as well as steep ascents and technical downhills.
The race is chip timed. To space runners at the start there are two waves five minutes apart; wave choice does not affect chip time. An enforced cutoff is in place at 7.6 km: competitors must reach this point within 2 hours to continue the full loop; those who do not will be directed onto a shortened route of roughly 13 km. The event aims to have all participants off the trail within 5 hours. Three dollars from each race entry will be donated to the trail system. A rain date has been identified if trails are too wet to race. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
