Western PA CARES for Kids 17th Annual Duathlon, 5K and Community Walk

This event, held at Cook Forest State Park Shelter 2 in Leeper/Cooksburg, PA on July 18, 2026, includes two timed races plus a community walk. The duathlon and 5K are timed; the community walk is an untimed two mile walk. A free picnic lunch is provided to racers and spectators following the event.

The duathlon format consists of:

  • 3.1 mile run, 12 mile bike ride, 2 mile run

The 5K is a 3.1 mile course on a mix of trails and paved roads. The duathlon may be completed solo or by teams of two or three. Cash prizes are awarded to race winners and multiple award categories are listed for overall and age group placements in both the duathlon and the 5K.

The event benefits Western PA CARES for Kids Child Advocacy Center. Participants are encouraged to raise donations; top fundraisers receive priority for premium prizes and fundraisers who raise $75 or more are entered into an exclusive prize drawing. Raffle tickets will be available for purchase. Fundraisers should bring a list of sponsors with each sponsor’s name, address, and tax receipt preference.

Registration windows include an Early Bird period from May 6 to May 31 with a drawing for $100, and regular registration from June 1 to July 17. Pre-registered participants by June 20 receive a free t-shirt. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
