Westcountry Ultra Flat 50
Westcountry Ultra Flat 50 is a point to point 50 miles race that runs from Taunton to Minehead. The event lists an elevation of -2,128 ft and an entry fee of £60. The official cut off time is 14 hours and there are six aid stations along the route. This is a cupless race so runners must carry at least one 500 ml water bottle and a cup if they want drinks at aid stations. Aid stations provide water, coke, squash, sandwiches, crisps, fruit, nuts, sweets and other snacks. Professional medics will cover the race and emergency services should be called where necessary.
The course begins with about 15 flat miles on the Taunton to Bridgwater Canal Path, then follows the River Parrett Trail and passes Steart Marshes nature reserve before a marked diversion around Hinkley Point. Runners pass the limestone formations at Lilstock and Kilve beaches, then head inland to West Quantoxhead, through pine forest and village sections to Williton and Watchet. The coast path includes undulating sections to Blue Anchor, a rocky approach to Dunster Beach and a final stretch along a cycle path toward Minehead. The finish is at West Somerset College.
Pacers are not allowed. Support crews are permitted but must respect local residents when parking and meeting runners. A very small drop bag may be taken to the finish and a GPX file will be issued with race information. Suggested kit includes a waterproof jacket, extra layers, headtorch, high vis clothing, whistle, compass, charged phone and emergency supplies. Trophies are awarded to the first male and female and all finishers receive a medal. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
