Westcountry Ultra 100 Miler : event facts

The Westcountry Ultra is a 100-mile point-to-point ultramarathon scheduled for Saturday 9th - Sunday 10th May 2026. The start location is Canal Road, Taunton (TA1 1PN) and the finish is West Somerset College, Minehead (TA24 6AY). Entry fee is £100 and the listed elevation gain is 9,538 ft. The race has a 32-hour cut-off. The male course record is 18:23:40 (2019) and the female record is 24:18:56 (2017). The organisers recommend prior completion of at least a 50-mile race within a cut-off before attempting the 100-mile distance.

Awards include a trophy for first male and first female finishers and a medal for all finishers. Coach transport is available from the finish to registration for an additional £3 per runner. Course, aid stations and support

The route combines the Flat 50 and Hilly 50 routes and uses sections of the Taunton to Bridgwater canal path, River Parrett Trail, England Coast Path and South-West Coast Path. Listed route features include the UK’s smallest parish church, the UK’s largest nuclear power station, limestone coastal formations, Somerset’s highest hill and an official dark skies reserve.

There are 13 aid stations. The race is cupless so runners must carry bottles or cups. Aid stations provide water, coke, squash, sandwiches, crisps, fruit, nuts, sweets and other snacks. Tracking will be used from 2025 and a GPX file is supplied in the race information.

Pacers are allowed from the halfway point. Drop bags are permitted at the halfway aid station but must be small. Recommended kit includes a waterproof jacket, hat and gloves, an extra base layer, headtorch with spare batteries, high-visibility clothing for night, whistle, compass, charged mobile phone and battery pack, emergency food, at least one 500 ml water bottle, foil survival blanket and a personal first aid kit.
