Wessex Night League - Amesbury is an urban night orienteering event based at the New Inn in Amesbury Old Town. The format is a 60-minute Score event with 24 controls. There are three sets of dumbbells joined by a line that must be collected with no other controls between each one. Control descriptions are printed on the map and available at the start. Pre-entry is mandatory. Juniors under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

Course, location and practical information

The event map is 1:5,000 on A4 waterproof paper with 5 m contours. Terrain is mixed old and new town with many alleyways; the A345 runs through the town and requires careful road crossings. Registration, dibber collection and download are in the New Inn; the start is reached via a taped route from the pub to the north-east corner of the car park. Parking is in the Centre Car Park off the A345 (postcode SP4 7FU, grid ref SU 155415).

Hired SI dibbers are available in the pub; non-SIAC dibber hire is £1.50 and lost dibbers will be charged at £70. Entry fees: Senior £7.00, Junior £3.00; chip hire £1.50. Controls are SIAC enabled. Competitors must wear hi-viz tops and carry sufficient lights; a whistle is advisable. Toilets, food and drinks are available in the pub. Dogs are allowed only inside the pub, not on the course.
