Ward Mountain Scramble Trail Run

The Ward Mountain Scramble Trail Run takes place on June 20, 2026, at the Ward Mountain Forest Service Campgrounds near the shared parking for Group Site A. The event is organized by Ely Outdoor Enthusiasts and offers multiple single-track trail distances with marked courses.

Available distances:

  • 2+ miles
  • 5.5+ miles
  • 8.5+ miles
  • 13.3 miles
  • Marathon (full distance)

Courses start and finish at Group Site A and use local trails such as the G-Loop, H-Loop, Rope Tow, Making Pancakes, and various connector and ATV trails. Reported elevation gain varies by course: about 270 feet for the 2+ mile, about 727 feet for the 5.5 mile, about 1,250 feet for the 8.5 mile, and about 1,850 feet for the 13.3 mile. The full marathon is the half-marathon course repeated in the opposite direction for the second lap.

Aid station coverage differs by distance: none on the shortest course, one on the 5.5 mile, two on the 8.5 mile, and three on the 13.3 and marathon courses; the third aid station is self-serve. Trails will be marked with flagging and arrow signs; wrong-way signs will be used where confusion is possible. One porta potty is located at the Ski Hill aid station; pit toilets are available at the start/finish and the trailhead. Timing will use disposable chips. Awards are given to top three male and female finishers per course, first dog per course, and top three youth in the 2-mile race; all finishers receive a medal and an event shirt.

Registration is online only, with online registration closing June 18 and a shirt deadline on June 6. Package pickup is scheduled the day before at Desert Mountain Realty, 1060 E. Aultman Street. Dogs are permitted under rules: leashed at all times, one dog per person, no extendable leads longer than two meters, owners must clean up, and kids 13 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Runners without dogs have right-of-way. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
