Wapiti Bush Run
Wapiti Bush Run 2026
The Wapiti Bush Run takes place on the Gronlid Cross Country Ski Trails in the Fort à la Corne Island Forest near Melfort, Saskatchewan. The event began in 2015 and continued annually through 2017. A 2026 edition is listed at the same venue.
Distances offered:
- 2.5 km Wild Ones Fun Run Cabin Trail to Skate Trail loop, little elevation change
- 5.5 km Race/Run/Jog Ridge Trail to Skate Trail loop with a climb to Ridge Trail
- 8.5 km Race/Run/Jog Ridge Trail to Jackpine Trail to Skate Trail, hilly sections
Course descriptions note sandy mixed woodland trails, climbs along ridges and sections through birch bluffs, aspen groves and pine forest. The 8.5 km route includes a climb to the top of Ridge Trail, a descent to Cabin station, a rolling section on Jackpine Trail and roughly 2 km home on Skate Trail. The 2.5 km route is described as a gentle loop suitable for trail introduction.
Early bird and general registration packages include a hot lunch with dessert, a beverage and a swag bag with a signature Wapiti Bush Run toque. Adult and youth categories are available. Medals for top three male and female finishers in the 5.5 km and 8.5 km races are planned, and a post race luncheon and awards ceremony will take place at Gronlid Hall.
The venue features nearly 20 km of year round maintained trails. The island forest is surrounded by farmland, supports concentrated wildlife, and provides outdoor bathroom facilities. The event is sanctioned by Saskatchewan Athletics and proceeds support trail infrastructure and nature conservation. All registrations are final with no refunds.
