Wapiti Bush Run

The Wapiti Bush Run takes place at the Gronlid Cross Country Ski Trails in the Fort à la Corne Island Forest near Melfort, Saskatchewan. The courses run through a mix of boreal forest, sandy ridges, birch bluffs, aspen groves and deep pine stands, with elevated views along the Ridge Trail. The site is active wildlife country and visitors are asked to follow Leave No Trace principles. Outdoor bathroom facilities are available.
Distances offered
- 2.0 km Wild Ones Fun Run : Cabin Trail to Skate Trail loop, about 2.5 km, gentle terrain
- 5.5 km Race/Run/Jog : Ridge Trail to Skate Trail, includes climb to Ridge Trail summit
- 8.5 km Race/Run/Jog : Ridge Trail to Jackpine Trail to Skate Trail, hilly sections and a final 2 km on Skate Trail
There are adult and youth divisions. Early Bird and General registration include a hot lunch with dessert, a beverage, and a swag bag with an official Wapiti Bush Run toque. Race packages are picked up the morning of the event and a pre-race briefing is held at the start/finish line. Post-race refreshments are provided at the finish line and a luncheon is held at Gronlid Hall for registered participants and ticket holders. Medals are awarded to the top three adult and youth males and females in the 8.5 km and 5.5 km races, with awards presented at Gronlid Hall. Proceeds support trail infrastructure and nature conservation. The event is sanctioned by Saskatchewan Athletics. Registrations are final; optional registration refund protection is available.
