Wallowa Skyrace

The Wallowa Skyrace is a mountain footrace held near Joseph, Oregon, at the Wallowa Lake Tramway. The course rises 3,700 feet over 4.2 miles from Wallowa Lake to the top of Mt Howard. After reaching the summit, participants descend via the tram ride provided as part of the event.

This is the third edition. The event operates under a special use permit from the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest. A course map is provided for the route to the summit.

Registration is open until June 18, 2026. Entry fees follow a tiered schedule: $90 through December 31, 2025; $100 through April 30, 2026; and $110 through the close of registration. Registration fees include the tram ride down, a finisher medal, and post-race refreshments. Event shirts are available for an additional $30.

Packet pickup takes place at the Wallowa Lake Tramway start area. Every participant receives a finisher medal; awards are given to the top three overall male and female finishers. A $200 prize is offered to the male or female participant who breaks the current course record. Current course records are 1:02:25 for the male record (2024) and 1:11:54 for the female record (2025). A point-to-point half marathon from Cove to Union, Oregon, mostly on gravel with nearly 1,000 feet of climbing. Aid stations at miles 4, 7 and 11 and no shuttle back to the start.
