Wallowa Skyrace
The Wallowa Skyrace is a mountain running event held at Wallowa Lake and finishing near the summit of Mt Howard. The course gains 3,700 feet over 4.2 miles and offers views toward the Eagle Cap Wilderness. Registered entrants ride the tram back down following the climb.
The event is organized under a special use permit from the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest. There is a limit on participant numbers. Registration follows tiered pricing: $90 through December 31, 2025, $100 through April 30, 2026, and $110 until registration closes on June 18, 2026. Registration cost includes the tram ride down, a finisher medal, and postrace refreshments. Race shirts are available for purchase for an additional $30.
Packet pickup takes place at the Wallowa Lake Tramway on race day at the start location. Every participant receives a finisher medal. Awards are given to the top three overall male and top three overall female finishers. A $200 cash prize is offered to the male or female participant who breaks the current course record; the standing course times are 1:02:25 for the male record set in 2024 and 1:11:54 for the female record set in 2025.
