Vol State

Sand Mountain, United States • 9-19 Jul 2026

Vol State (July 9 - 19, 2026)

The Vol State is a self-supported road ultramarathon of 314 miles that begins with a ferry crossing of the Mississippi River from Missouri to Kentucky and finishes at the Rock on Sand Mountain in northeast Georgia. The route follows highways and backroads through small towns, over hills, across rivers, and up mountains, with typical July heat and humidity in Tennessee.

There are no aid stations or official pacers; entrants must rely on their own food, water, rest, and navigation. Entrants are required to report their location by phone or text at 0730 and 1930 each day; failure to check in will prompt a search.

Two registration options are described. A lower cost option excludes pre-race bus and hotel logistics. A higher cost option includes a parking spot at the finish from the day before the race until completion, a guaranteed bus seat with lunch en route to Union City, a double occupancy room in Union City the night before the race, and a bus from Union City to the ferry on race morning.

The organizer states that crew vehicles will not be allowed in 2025. Refunds are available on a declining scale: 90% until December 24, then 80% January through March, 70% April and May, and 50% in June. A wait list will be maintained and replacements receive refunds by mailed paper check. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
