Vol-State ultramarathon
The Vol-State is a long-distance, self-supported road race that follows a route from a ferry crossing over the Mississippi River to a finish at the Rock on Sand Mountain in northeast Georgia. The advertised course distance is 314 miles. The event takes place in July and runs over multiple days; participants may take three to ten days to complete the route while moving along highways and backroads through small towns, hills, rivers, mountains, valleys, and the heat and humidity of July in Tennessee.
There are two registration options listed: a higher cost option with bus and hotel services and a lower cost option without bus or hotel. The bus and hotel option includes a guaranteed bus seat along the course to Union City with lunch, a double occupancy room in Union City the night before the race, a bus ride from Union City to the ferry on race morning, and a parking spot at the finish line from the day before the race until the entrant finishes or their race ends.
Organizers state that no crew vehicles will be allowed. Entrants must report their location by phone or text at 07:30 and 19:30 each day; failure to check in will prompt a search. Runners may drop from the race at any time by calling in to request transportation to the car park. The event maintains a wait list and a tiered refund schedule with deadlines and declining refund percentages. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
