VICTORY LANE BACKYARD 12
VICTORY LANE BACKYARD 12 is a backyard ultra held in Bussey, IA, with the course beginning and ending at a barn on 2308 Victory Lane. The format requires runners to complete a 4.167 mile lap each hour; a 12 hour race cap corresponds to 50 miles.
The trail is mostly grass with some gravel and includes typical trail features such as roots, rocks, and uneven surfaces. There may be water on the course in late August. Snacks will be available at the starting corral and at an aid station.
Race rules require runners to be back in the starting corral at the top of the hour to begin the next lap; 3, 2, and 1 minute warnings are given. Laps must be completed within 60 minutes. Participants may leave the course only to use the restroom until a lap is complete. Spectators, crew, pacers, eliminated runners, and personal aids like trekking poles are not allowed on the course. Slower runners must allow others to pass. Upon finishing a lap, participants may receive crew aid.
Crew areas are located in the open space east of the barn; tents and canopies are permitted and vehicles must use designated parking. There is very little access to electricity. Crew areas must be cleaned and trash removed after the event. Loud music and pets are not permitted in crew areas.
Packet pick up is available before race day and a mandatory pre-race meeting is held on the morning of the event. Entry pricing uses three tiers with increases on May 1 and August 1; a t-shirt add-on is available for $25 before the August price increase. No refunds or transfers. The winner receives a medal and a prize package. Results list distance covered and laps completed; anyone other than the winner is recorded as DNF unless one runner completes one more lap than all others.
