VICTORY LANE BACKYARD 12

VICTORY LANE BACKYARD 12 is a backyard ultra held at 2308 Victory Lane in Bussey, IA. Participants run repeated laps of a set loop; each lap is 4.167 miles and must be completed within 60 minutes. The event has a race cap of 12 hours, which corresponds to 50 miles if a runner completes every lap through the cap.

Runners must return to the starting corral by the top of each hour or be disqualified; 3, 2, and 1 minute warnings are given before the hour. Laps must be completed without leaving the course except to use the restroom. Spectators and crew, including eliminated runners, are not allowed on the course while laps are in progress. No pacers or personal aids such as trekking poles may be used when running the course. Slower runners must allow others to pass.

After completing a lap, participants may receive aid from their crew in the crew area. The winner is the last person to complete a lap, finishing one more lap than any other runner; all other participants receive a distance or laps-completed result. If no runner completes an extra lap over others, there is no winner.

The loop begins and ends at a barn and is mostly grass with some gravel. Runners should expect roots, rocks, uneven surfaces, and a possible presence of water. Snacks will be available at the starting corral and at an aid station.

Packet pick up is available early on the day before the race. A mandatory pre-race meeting will be held before the event. Crew space is located east of the barn; crews may bring tents or canopies, must park in designated areas, and should plan for very limited access to electricity. Crew areas must be cleaned at the conclusion of the event and pets should remain at home. Registration uses three pricing tiers with increases on May 1 and August 1. A t-shirt add on is offered for $25 to registrants prior to the August 1 price increase. No refunds or transfers are permitted. The winner will receive a medal and a prize package.
