Zion Ultras, Apple Valley UT
Zion Ultras offers multiple trail distances that start and finish at Ruby Rider Ranch near Smithsonian Butte. The routes run across high-desert mesas and include long stretches of singletrack, slickrock, and exposed desert trails with sustained climbs, narrow rim sections, and technical footing.
Distances:
- 100 Mile
- 100K
- 60K
- 30K
- Half Marathon
The 100-mile course is roughly 96.9 miles with about +10,481 feet of elevation gain and includes long climbs, rim trails above the Virgin River, slickrock sections, and a descent assisted by a fixed rope. Runners may encounter water crossings in Dalton Wash and varied terrain on Gooseberry and Wire Mesas. Aid stations are placed throughout the courses; many are fully stocked with electrolyte drinks, fresh fruit, sweet and salty snacks, and later stations may offer hot foods. All aid stations provide portable restrooms.
Crew and pacer policies are specified by distance: crew is allowed for 60K, 100K, and 100-mile runners; pacers are allowed for 100K and 100-mile runners and must register and follow designated-aid-station rules. Drop bags are permitted for longer distances with labeling, size limits, and a required drop-off time the night before the race; organizers offer a return-to-finish procedure and optional mailing for a fee. The event is cupless; runners must carry a personal drinking vessel or hydration system. Required gear includes a headlamp, hydration system, an offline course map device, and visible bib placement.
