Vacation Races - Zion Ultras
The Zion Ultras take place April 10-11, 2027, in Apple Valley, Utah, with the start and finish at Ruby Rider Ranch near Smithsonian Butte. The event offers multiple distances:
- 100 Mile
- 100K
- 60K
- 30K
- Half Marathon
Courses run across high-desert mesas and link long sections of singletrack, slickrock, and exposed desert trails. The routes include long sustained climbs, narrow rim sections, technical singletrack, and sections with steep drops; one descent has a fixed rope for assistance. Parts of the course trace Gooseberry and Wire Mesas, cross near the Virgin River and Highway 9 corridor, and pass Smith Mesa and Mondo Z features. Water crossings are possible in Dalton Wash.
Aid stations are fully stocked with hydration, electrolyte mixes, gels, fresh fruit, sweet and salty snacks, and portable restrooms; later stations may offer hot foods. Medical personnel are stationed at major aid stations and the finish. Crew is permitted for 60K, 100K, and 100 Mile runners; pacers are permitted for 100K and 100 Mile runners and must follow designated-station rules. Drop bags are allowed for longer distances with specific labeling and size limits and must be left the evening before the race.
The event is cupless for cold drinks; runners must carry their own cup or hydration system. Required gear includes a headlamp, hydration system, an offline-accessible course map device, and visible bib placement. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
