Utopia Backyard Ultra : Tiffin Centre for Conservation
Utopia Backyard Ultra takes place at the Tiffin Centre for Conservation on a looped course made mostly of crushed gravel with a 2 km section of sandier, woody trail. The loop length is 4 miles 880 feet (metric 6.7056 kilometers) with no more than about 45 m of elevation per lap. The course will be marked with arrows, flags, and reflective markers.
The primary format is the Backyard Ultra: one lap starts every hour and the event continues until only one runner completes a lap more than anyone else. Fixed-duration Backyard races are also offered where participants either finish or are recorded as DNF.
Race options:
- Backyard 6 (6 hours)
- Backyard 12 (12 hours)
- The Backyard (Full BYU, open-ended)
Registration opens July 12, 2026; prices increase January 1, 2027. Typical entry benefits include start/finish line camping, aid station snacks, a bamboo t-shirt, and finisher items or prizes depending on the entry choice. Runners who achieve 24 continuous hours or 100 miles receive a belt buckle.
Key rules include the required lap distance, hourly starts with mandatory presence in the starting corral at the bell, completion of each lap within the hour, no personal aid during a lap, no artificial aids such as trekking poles, and no non-competitors on course. Timing of loops may be optional. The open-ended Backyard names a winner as the last person to complete a lap; fixed-hour Backyards name no winner.
Transfers to another racer are permitted up to the day before the event. Deferrals and refunds are not offered. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
