Union Half Marathon & Relay

The 9th annual Union Half Marathon & Relay takes place in Big Stone Gap, Virginia. The event starts at the Big Stone Gap Visitor Center.

The course uses the paved Greenbelt Trail in Big Stone Gap and connects to the Powell River Trail in Appalachia. A notable feature is that participants run through two old train tunnels on the Powell River Trail.

The event includes several race options:

  • Half Marathon
  • 2-4 Person Relay
  • Virtual Half Marathon
  • Both - Half Marathon & First Leg Relay

All finishers receive a unique finisher's medal and a race t-shirt. The race is open to runners, walkers, and wheelchair athletes. Baby strollers are permitted but must start at the back. Well-behaved, leashed dogs are also allowed. Headphones are permitted, but participants are advised to remain aware of their surroundings.

Packet pickup and late registration are available on race morning at the Visitor Center. The race is professionally timed using a bib-tag system, with results available after the event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
