Trail Running from the Mountains to the City

Ultra Adelaide is a trail running event in South Australia that connects the surrounding mountain ranges with the heart of the city. The course follows sections of the Heysen Trail, passing through Kuitpo, Mount Lofty, Cleland, Morialta, and Black Hill. Participants run through native bushland and national parks before descending along the River Torrens. The finish line is located at the Footbridge in front of Adelaide Oval in the city's central business district.

The event offers five different distance options for runners and hikers:

  • 100 miles
  • 100 km
  • 50 km
  • 34 km
  • 21 km

The longer courses involve significant elevation changes, with the 100 mile distance featuring approximately 4,862 meters of gain and the 100 km route featuring 3,639 meters. Most distances are recognized by the UTMB Index.

This is a plastic-free event. Participants must carry their own water vessels or keep cups, as no disposable cups are provided at the 11 manned aid stations, except for the 21 km distance. Mandatory gear requirements apply for all distances, including items such as a mobile phone with a downloaded GPX file, a snake bandage, and a space blanket. The event provides bus transportation from the city to the various start lines. There are no qualification requirements to enter, though participants must meet age restrictions and be prepared for the physical demands of their chosen distance.
