About the race

Ultra Adelaide is a trail ultra in Adelaide, South Australia, staged from the Adelaide Hills into the city at Pinky Flat by the River Torrens and Adelaide Oval. The event offers five distances with measured elevation and time limits. Four distances are official UTMB Index races and contribute to a runner’s UTMB Index.

  • 162.02 km 100 Miler, +4,883 m elevation, 36 hour cut-off
  • 104.13 km 100K, +3,639 m elevation, 28 hour cut-off
  • 104.13 km 100K Teams, +3,639 m elevation, 28 hour cut-off
  • 53.79 km 50K, +1,607 m elevation, 26 hour cut-off
  • 34.99 km 34K, +1,040 m elevation, 24 hour cut-off
  • 21.1 km 21K, +179 m elevation, 22 hour cut-off

Race village check in, drop bag rules, shuttle bus transport to start lines, and a network of mapped aid stations are provided. The 100 miler course includes ten manned aid stations with food and drink supplies at specified locations. Mandatory equipment lists vary by distance; 100M, 100K and 50K runners must carry a phone, GPX file, mini first aid kit, waterproof jacket, whistle, headlamp and minimum 1,000 ml of liquids among other items. Age minimums apply: 18+ for ultra distances, 12+ for 34K and 10+ for 21K. Finish line and key aid stations have firm cutoffs; final finish cutoff is midday on the day after the race. Backyard Everest invites runners to chase big elevation on 5.3 km loops at Black Hill Park with about 369 m climb per lap. Choose 3, 6, 12 or 20 hour entries and add extra laps to push toward the Everest equivalent within 24 hours.
