Twisted Roots is a trail running event organized by TYDISH Running, a female-owned company. The event takes place at High Cliff State Park in Sherwood, Wisconsin. The courses offer a mix of terrain, including technical single tracks and wide rolling prairie sections. Runners can expect views of Lake Winnebago and will pass by the Niagara Escarpment cliffs and historical Lime Kiln Ruins.

Distances

The event features two race distances:

  • Marathon
  • Half Marathon

Course & Rules

Some sections of the trail are shared with mountain bikers and horse riders; runners must yield accordingly and follow proper trail etiquette. There is an 8-hour cutoff for the marathon and a 5-hour cutoff for the half marathon. This is a cupless event; runners must provide their own hydration carriers or reusable cups for refills at aid stations. Water, soda, and an electrolyte beverage will be provided, along with running snacks. No alcohol or disposable single-use cups are allowed. Cowbells are also prohibited for crew, staff, and spectators.

Venue & Amenities

The event home base is the Gathering Space in the upper lot of the park, which offers ample parking. The park is open to the public on the event day. A pasta buffet will be available after the races. A portion of the event's profits and optional donations from registration will go to the Friends of High Cliff State Park, a non-profit volunteer community that supports the park.
