Trail Running at Danby Lodge

The Turnpike Trot and Rabbit Run are trail running events held at the Danby Lodge National Park Centre in the North York Moors. Participants can choose between two distinct distances that utilize a scenic course through the national park. The event is conducted under an Association of Running Clubs permit and is limited to 150 participants.

The available distances include:

  • 5 km (Rabbit Run)
  • 10 km (Turnpike Trot)

The 10 km event consists of a double loop of the 5 km route. Both races start simultaneously and follow a fully marshalled and marked course. While there are no strict time limits for completion, the event maintains a cupless policy, meaning runners must bring their own reusable cup for water or refreshments at the aid stations and the finish line.

The entry fee includes parking at the National Park Centre, a finisher's medal, and refreshments. Although there is no mandatory kit list, organizers advise wearing waterproof jackets and trainers with appropriate grip for trail conditions. Awards are presented in both distances for the first, second, and third finishers in male and female categories for both under 18s and over 18s. Please note that no dogs are permitted to run with participants. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
