True Grit Trail Marathon
The True Grit Trail Marathon is a long-distance trail running event located in Bridgend, Wales. The course covers a distance of 26.2 miles and takes place on a variety of terrains, including hills, quarry sections, and forestry trails. The event is organized by Mad Running Junkies and is limited to a field of 60 participants.
The route features several notable sections, including the Bedford ironworks, a scheduled ancient monument situated within the 40-acre Bedford Park. This area includes a network of footpaths and the all-weather Celtic Trail track. Runners also navigate a quarry section characterized by slag heaps, mud, and water, as well as a technical downhill forestry trail. The final mile of the course consists of a flat, muddy section leading to the finish line at the Bridgend Miniature Railway Centre.
Participants must be at least 18 years old to enter. The course is fully marked, and a GPX file is provided for navigation. There are five major checkpoints and feed stations positioned along the route, providing water and snacks such as jelly babies.
