Traprain Law Hill Race
Carnethy Hill Running Club organises an annual hill race that starts from East Linton Memorial Park in East Linton. Entry fee is £7.50. Entries are open through SI Entries and entries are also accepted on the day.
The race category is 10.4 km with 310 m total climb. The route runs along riverside footpaths and farm tracks, includes a wade across the River Tyne, a steep ascent of The Law over rocky slabs with a rope provided, and returns via footpaths and roads to Pencraig Wood and back to East Linton. The route was changed in 2022 to include an extra climb to Pencraig Wood. Studded running shoes are advised.
Course records include a men’s time of 39:44 recorded in 2025 and a women’s time of 50:21 recorded in 2022 and 2025. The event follows the Scottish Hill Runners safety rules.
Prizes are awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd male and female; first places in age categories v40, v50, v60 and v70 plus; first local; and first team men and first team ladies.
The race passes close to archaeological and geological features of Traprain Law. The route has a history of a riverside wade that is usually shallow but can become impassable in high flow and require a detour by the footbridge. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
