Traprain Law Hill Race

Traprain Law Hill Race

The Traprain Law Hill Race is organised by Carnethy Hill Running Club and the next edition is scheduled for 13 June 2026. The course is 10.4 km long with 310 m of total climb. The route runs along riverside footpaths and farm tracks, includes a wade across the River Tyne, and features a steep ascent of the Law over rocky slabs where a rope is provided. The outward route can be affected by river conditions and sometimes requires a detour by the footbridge.

In 2022 the route was changed to include an extra climb to Pencraig Wood before returning to East Linton. The race starts at East Linton Memorial Park on School Road, East Linton. Studded running shoes are advised. All Carnethy organised races adhere to Scottish Hill Runners safety rules.

Prizes are awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd male and female, age-category winners for v40, v50, v60 and v70 plus, 1st local, and team prizes for men and ladies. Entry fee is £7.50. Entries are open online via SI Entries and entries are also possible on the day.

The event follows a long local tradition connected to the village gala and passes close to the archaeological site where the Traprain Treasure was found. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
