"Train"ing Run
Highland Park, United States • 6 Jun 2026
27th Annual D&R Canal Towpath "Train"ing Run
The event is a non-competitive group run held on National Trails Day to benefit the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey. The organizer donates $0.50 for every mile run or walked. The scheduled date is June 6, 2026, and the destination is Grove 4 in Johnson Park. The park entrance is at River Road and Violet Drive in Piscataway, NJ 08854.
The format uses organized groups called "trains" that travel at predetermined paces. Each train has an official pacer or conductor, stops at stations along the towpath, and provides fuel such as water or snacks from Alexander Road to the destination. Trains begin in Trenton and add runners and walkers at successive stations so more participants can join at their chosen pace.
Transport options and entry details include bus-transported starts and a no bus entry. Bus entries carry a registration fee of $40. A picnic only option is listed with fees of $30 for ages 13 and up and $5 for ages 12 and under. Most running entries open for registration on February 8, 2026 and close March 8, 2026; picnic registration closes on the event date. Participants who do not use a bus are asked to report their mileage at the end of their walk or run. Event transfers or changes can be made through the registration system up to June 4, 2026 if there is space on the desired bus.
