"Train"ing Run
The Raritan Valley Road Runners "Train"ing Run is a non-competitive group run held on National Trails Day along the Delaware & Raritan Canal Towpath, finishing at Grove 4 in Johnson Park. The event donates $0.50 for every mile run or walked to the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey. Participants register for bus transport to specific start locations and may change their selected start up to June 4 if space is available.
The event begins with small groups leaving Trenton to cover the full 34.6 miles; additional runners join at stations along the towpath so that groups of runners travel together at predetermined paces. Each group has an official pacer to maintain the selected pace. Trains stop at scheduled stations and from Alexander Road to the destination there is available fuel in the form of water and snacks. Bus service is provided to multiple points on the towpath.
Distances offered include:
- 34.6 miles
- 26.2 miles
- 20.5 miles
- 17.4 miles
- 13.9 miles
- 11.8 miles
- 9.7 miles

The event includes a post run picnic with hot and cold food and cold drinks. RVRR operates a Frequent Training Program that awards commemorative mugs at 100, 200, and 300 mile milestones, and a special memento for those who complete the full 34.6 mile route. Volunteers support runners along the towpath and efforts include leaving the trail cleaner than it was found. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
