Toxic Trail 37
Toxic Trail 37 is a point to point road race in Canal Point, Florida. The course runs approximately 37 miles from Port Mayaca to Stuart Beach and finishes on the Atlantic Ocean with a Double Bridge finish and ocean views. Organizers note a tradition of a group photo taken in the ocean at the finish.
The event is presented to raise awareness about the flow of discharge from Lake Okeechobee into the St. Lucie River via the C-44 canal. Organizers encourage visible support along the route, including signs and banners, to keep attention on local water issues.
Course character changes over distance: the first 20 miles are described as cool, quiet and serene while running against traffic in rural areas. Miles 23 to 33 move into the busier Stuart area. The final 3 to 4 miles run along the coast to the beach finish.
Support and safety details are specified. Aid stations are planned approximately every 5 to 7 miles. Solo runners are strongly encouraged to use a crew and to be self reliant; uncrewed entrants will be asked about qualifications and should expect high heat index conditions in June. A shuttle option to the start is available for solo uncrewed runners. Relay teams may include up to six runners with changes every two miles or more. Crew vehicles must pull fully off the road and display hazards while parked. There will be a police presence on the highway. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
