Toxic Trail 37 : Canal Point to Stuart Beach

Toxic Trail 37 is a road race held in Canal Point, Florida. The event is a point to point course of approximately 37 miles from Port Mayaca to Stuart Beach. Its stated purpose is to bring awareness to discharges from Lake Okeechobee that flow through the C-44 canal into the St. Lucie River and surrounding estuary areas.

Course notes describe the first 20 miles as cooler and quieter in rural areas, with miles 23 to 33 moving into the more built environment of Stuart. The finish is on the beach with Atlantic Ocean views and a double bridge approach. Organizers note a tradition of a group photo in the ocean.

Support and safety: aid stations are planned approximately every 5 to 7 miles. Solo runners are encouraged to have a crew; uncrewed solo runners will be asked about qualifications and a shuttle option to the start is available for uncrewed runners. Relay teams may include up to six runners with runner changes every two miles or more. There will be a police presence on the highway and crews are required to park fully off the road with hazard lights on while stopped. The event takes place in June in South Florida and organizers warn of high heat; participants are advised to be self reliant and plan for adverse conditions.
