Event overview

The LOST 118 Ultras is a 118-mile ultramarathon held around Lake Okeechobee, Florida, on Saturday, February 28, 2026. The event follows the Lake Okeechobee Scenic Trail (LOST) atop the Herbert Hoover Levee and runs counterclockwise, finishing at the start location in Clewiston. Entry options include a crew-supported 118-mile division and an uncrewed, self-supported solo cart division. Entry fee for the 20th anniversary year is $118.

Course, logistics and rules

  • Distance: 118 miles

The route is mainly a 10-foot wide paved asphalt path with about 15 miles of hard-packed crushed shell double track. There are several short roadway sections to cross canals and rivers; runners must run facing traffic and wear reflective safety gear and lights on road sections. The course is exposed with no shade or tree cover. There are 22 designated crew access points and additional informal contact points. A single aid station is located at Lake Okeechobee Park at the halfway mark.

The solo self-supported cart division requires the runner to keep the same cart throughout, carry minimum supplies at the start (no less than 2 gallons of potable liquid and 2,000 calories of food), carry a map of resupply stores, a hat or buff, a working cell phone with backup power, a GPX track, a headlamp with spare batteries, and extra clothing plus an emergency blanket. Solo cart entrants must have a crew member on standby for extraction. Reaching the halfway point within 18 hours and finishing the loop within 38 hours are mandatory. Violations of race rules result in disqualification and a permanent ban. Timing is electronic with live online updates. The race donates a portion of gross revenue to the Cypress Chapter of the IWLA.
