Thumb Coast Ultra & Relay offers multiple long-distance options on rural roads in Michigan’s Thumb. The 50 Mile course runs point-to-point from Harbor Beach on Lake Huron to the Saginaw Bay finish in Caseville. The 50K is an out-and-back course that begins and ends in Caseville. Surfaces are mostly dirt and unimproved rural roads. Elevation gain is listed as about 500 feet for the 50 Mile and 300 feet for the 50K.
The event includes relay, ruck, and virtual divisions in addition to the solo running races. Ruck competitors must carry a weighted ruck sack or plate carrier and will be weighed prior to the event; runners under 150 lb must carry 20 lb, runners over 150 lb must carry 30 lb. The 50 Mile Ruck is not eligible for overall or age group awards but is eligible for the Beat the Sun prize. The event uses marked course routes and volunteer-staffed aid stations and provides generous cutoff times.
