The Vale of Glamorgan Ultra Marathon 2026

The VOGUM is a 40 mile ultra marathon that follows the Wales Coast Path through the Glamorgan Heritage Coast. The route begins in Porthcawl and travels east to the finish line in Penarth. Participants encounter a variety of coastal scenery including golden beaches, dramatic cliffs, and historical landmarks such as Ogmore Castle.

The course consists of approximately 85% trail and 15% road surfaces. It features a total elevation gain of 3,054ft. A notable section of the route involves crossing the stepping stones near Ogmore Castle, a fortification dating back to the late eleventh or early twelfth century. The event is clearly marked and provides three fully stocked checkpoints and aid stations along the way. These stations offer snacks, fresh fruit, hot and cold drinks, seating, and power banks.

There are no strict time limits for this event, as the focus is on the journey and the coastal views. Mandatory equipment is required for all participants, including:

  • Appropriate Footwear
  • 1 Litre Water Carrier
  • Mobile Phone
  • Head Lamp or Light Source
  • Foil Blanket
  • Waterproof jacket
  • Rucksack

The entry includes a finisher medal, post-race care, and the support of event staff. For logistical convenience, a coach service is available to transport runners from the finish location in Penarth to the start in Porthcawl on the morning of the event.
