The St Albans Sixer - Backyard Ultra
The event is a backyard ultra held at the Lower Red Lion, 36 Fishpool Street, St Albans AL3 4RX. Competitors run a loop of 4.167 mile (6.706 km) every hour, on the hour, and continue until only one runner completes a lap. Each lap must be completed within the hour; extra time between laps may be used for rest, eating, or strategy.
Entry is limited to 90 individual runners; teams and relays are not permitted. The entry fee is £55 per runner and includes six drink tokens and a commemorative glass, with at least £5 from each entry donated to Youth Talk, a local charity offering free confidential counselling to 13–25 year olds in St Albans and surrounding areas.
A course map will be published at least two weeks before the event. Registration and a race briefing are organised at the Lower Red Lion; attendance at the briefing is required. Food and drink will be available throughout the day and night, and the pub will remain open 24 hours with access restrictions during non-pub hours limited to runners and their supporters.
Suggested kit includes comfortable trail shoes, layered clothing for day and night, a headlamp or chestlamp, a water bottle, basic first aid items, energy snacks, and extra socks.
