Plough and Harroween 5 mile night trail run

The event is a five mile night trail run held on 30 October 2026 from The Plough & Harrow in Litlington, East Sussex. A TRA permit application is in progress and the event is in its third year. The route follows Strava/Garmin GPX files and runs in the reverse direction of the Friston Forest 5 route. Organisers provide a written narrative to help with downloads and a tail runner to sweep the course.

The majority of the route is in countryside terrain, including forest, farm tracks and downlands, with a lot of hills. Participants must be 18 years and older because a licensed premises is used for the start and finish. Required equipment includes a head torch, a mobile phone with ICE details, and ideally trail running shoes to wear under Halloween themed fancy dress.

The event is timed but described as more of a fun adventure in the dark than a competition. Fancy dress is part of the format: trophies will be awarded to the best three dressed and the winner receives a post run dessert. Runners who do not wear any Halloween fancy dress incur a five minute time penalty. Non affiliated England Athletics or Trail Runners Association participants pay an additional £2 levy. Parking is limited and in the unlikely event of snow or ice the event may be postponed by a year.

Entry prices vary by date: until 31 Jan 2026 £16.50, until 31 May 2026 £17.00, until 24 Oct 2026 £17.50. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
