The Pilgrimage
Mack, United States • 3 May 2026
Event Format
The Pilgrimage is a 150-hour timed running event taking place in Mack, Colorado. It features a unique format with five distinct loop courses, each with a different color, name, and approximate distance. Together, these loops form one "Journey" of roughly 55.3 miles with about 5,908 feet of elevation gain. Runners must complete at least four Journeys (approximately 220 miles) within the time limit to avoid a DNF. The route order for each Journey is determined by specific rules that change (e.g., pre-determined, random draw, or runner's choice).
Course Details
The course consists of a mix of single track, dirt roads, and ATV tracks with no pavement. It is set in the high desert of Western Colorado, with an average altitude just over 5,000 feet. The terrain is described as not overly difficult, featuring views of the Colorado River and sections with a desert landscape.
Participant Information
The event is limited to 45 runners. There are two divisions: crewed and uncrewed. Pacers are never allowed. Uncrewed runners are defined as those without any dedicated crew assistance on site. The overall winner of the uncrewed division receives free lifetime entry to the event. Aid is provided only at the home base, offering hot and cold food, drinks, and a portable shower. Runners must be largely self-sufficient for foot care and other needs.
Navigation and Rules
Runners must have separate GPX files for each course and know how to use them for navigation, though the course will also be marked. The event emphasizes self-reliance and solitude, with runners often being alone for long stretches. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
