THE MAMMOTH, Mammoth Lakes, CA

The Mammoth is a loop footrace that starts and finishes in Mammoth Lakes, California, and circumnavigates a 760,000 year old caldera. The course links small mountain communities and passes alpine lakes, abandoned mines, and dense pine forests before reaching the Glass Mountains.

Runners traverse high desert terrain and rolling hills scented with sage, expansive volcanic rock fields, the largest continuous Jeffrey pine forest, and the tufa towers of Mono Lake. The route includes summits of Mammoth Mountain reaching 11,053 feet and offers broad views of the surrounding area.

The event plans to start approximately 250 entrants and operates under special use permission on National Forest lands; a pool of reserved spots and a waitlist are maintained. A spot tracker device is mandatory for participation and must be collected and checked prior to the race. Drop bag handling is managed at aid stations and in the Village Plaza with a final pickup deadline after the event; the overall course cutoff is 108 hours.

Prize money is offered to top finishers with equal payouts for female and male podiums: $5,000 first place, $3,000 second place, and $2,000 third place. Early bird pricing is listed at $1,595 through February 28. Refunds and deferrals follow a published schedule and cancellation by the organizer due to force majeure may not result in refunds.
