THE MAMMOTH

The Mammoth is a long-distance footrace through the Eastern Sierra that starts and finishes in Mammoth Lakes, California. The course follows a loop that circumnavigates a 760,000 year old caldera and connects several mountain communities. Participants travel through a variety of environments, including alpine lakes, abandoned mines, and dense pine forests.

The route features diverse terrain and vegetation, from the fragrant sage of the high desert and rolling hills to the volcanic rock expanses of the Glass Mountains. The course passes through the world's largest continuous Jeffrey pine forest and by the Tufa towers of Mono Lake. The race includes two summits of Mammoth Mountain, reaching an elevation of 11,053 feet.

The event operates on permitted areas within the National Forest under special use permission from the Forest Service. Registration is limited to a field of approximately 250 people, with a waitlist system used for filled spots. Participants must adhere to a mandatory gear check and medical check-in prior to starting.

The race has a total time limit of 108 hours. Prize money is awarded to the top three female and male finishers. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
