The Last Cowboy Backyard

Event overview

The Last Cowboy Backyard is a Backyard Ultra event on October 25, 2025, in O'Neill, NE, with the start and finish located at the community center (501 S 4th St). The course uses the Cowboy Trail as an out-and-back route on a flat, non-technical surface. The format awards one lap of 4.17 miles each hour; a new lap starts every hour and runners continue until only one person remains. The field is capped at 150 entrants. Indoor and outdoor crew areas will be available, and there will be indoor flushing restrooms plus porta potties on site.

Rules, crew, swag and entry

Crew is allowed with a maximum of three people per runner and crew access is only permitted between laps in the designated crew areas. No pacers, trekking poles, or aid from anyone other than a runner’s crew is allowed while a lap is in progress; violating aid rules or littering will result in disqualification. Runners must be at least 15 years old; runners under 18 must have a legal guardian onsite as crew and sign an additional waiver at packet pickup. Participants receive a tri-blend t-shirt and a custom wooden plaque showing accumulated mileage; the final male and female receive acrylic awards and the overall winner receives a custom belt buckle. Registration closes October 18. The event policy provides no refunds; deferral credit is available on a sliding scale and is valid for one year.
