Event overview
The Hunt is a trail running event at the Cody Archery Range east of Cody, Wyoming. Distances offered are:
- 1 Mile
- 6 Mile
- 16 Mile
- 50K
All races start and finish at the Cody Archery Range. The event notes variable winter to early-spring conditions - snow, wind, rain, cold - and potential wildlife encounters including bears and rattlesnakes.
Course and logistics
The 1 Mile is an out-and-back hill climb. The 6 Mile is described as a flowy trail. The 16 Mile includes sustained hills and scenic views. The 50K is run as two laps - the first 16 miles share the 16 Mile course and are hilly; the second 16 miles are more mellow. Interactive course maps are provided for each distance.
Aid stations vary by distance and are spaced through the courses. Stations provide water, an electrolyte drink, and snacks. All aid stations are cupless; participants must carry their own bottle, cup, or hydration pack. Organizers recommend carrying at least one bottle for longer distances, especially the 50K.
Volunteers will be positioned along the courses and trails will be marked with colored flagging. Walkers and hikers are allowed only on the 1 Mile and 6 Mile courses; the 16 Mile and 50K are intended for runners only. There is a 10-hour cut-off for the 50K and a cut-off for the 16 Mile. Food and beverages are available at the finish for participants. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
